Course Descriptions

Basics of mechanics of materials, mechanical properties, force and stress, axial loading, torsion, Shear, bending, torsion and combined stress, Mohr’s circle, deformation, statistically indeterminate systems, buckling of columns, introduction to energy systems, fracture, fatigue, creep.

It is realized in an industrial corporation which conducts mechanical engineering applications like “manufacturing and assembly processes” in its structure for minimum 20 workdays during summer vacation. Students report the activities performed in corporation according to a format determined by Mechanical Engineering Department. The language of the report is Turkish. Foreign students and/or the activities performed abroad, the language of training report is English. This is a Pass/Fail type of activity and students will not be given a letter grade.

Basic definitions of the theory of differential equations. First order differential equations. Integration factor method. Separable equations. Homogenous equations. Bernoulli equation. Second order linear differential equations with constant coefficients. Systems of first order linear differential equations with constant coefficients. Laplace transforms. Applications of Laplace transform to linear differential equations with constant coefficients. Convolution. Linear differential equations with variable coefficients. Euler equation. Ordinary and singular points. Series solutions of second-order linear differential equations.

Features and types of narration. Types of writing and dialogue. The narration of oral and written communication, presentation skills, language and communication skills through selected texts of World and Turkish literature. The relationship between language and literature. Enrichment of language through literature. Inventive literature texts. The relationship between consideration and language. Analyze of terms and concepts through literary texts. The summary of literary movements in Turkish literature.

Resources and scarcity; supply and demand; the mixed economy; market structure; national income, business cycles, unemployment and inflation; economic growth and productivity; money, banking and monetary policy; international trade and finance.

General English structures and expressions. Exchange of information on topics of personal opinions, interest or everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events). Structured interview statements. Personal details, daily routines, wants and needs, requests for information. Simplified letters, brochures and short newspaper articles. Descriptions of events, past activities and personal experiences. Plans and predictions. Basic expressions for paraphrasing. Description of places and lifestyles.

The basic theories in Ethics (the Philosophy of Morality). The practical implications of these theories in particular professions and areas such as engineering, medicine, pharmacology, genetics, technological innovation, artificial intelligence and robotology, management, marketing, international relations, public services, media and law. The meaning and significance of virtue and values. Moral principles within particular professions and their foundation in Ethics.

Fundamental engineering measurements. Sensors and instrumentation. Uncertainty analysis and assessment of results statistically. Presentation of results and reporting

Fundamentals of mechanical design. Machine components and their applications. Welded, brazed and riveted joints. Shaft-hub connections. Threaded joints and power screws. Pins, knuckles, shafts, springs, couplings and clutches. Lubrication theory and its applications. Sliding and rolling bearings. Gears and gear drives. Spur, helical, bevel and worm gear mechanisms. Belting and chain drives.

Fundamental principles of fluid mechanics and their application to engineering problems. Fluid statics. Fluid flow concepts. Control volume analysis. Conservation equations and applications. Dimensional analysis and similitude. Viscous flow. Laminar and turbulent flows. Internal and external flow applications.
